這是Federer生涯第2次賞給對手「Double Bagel」，前次是在2005的上海大師賽，苦主為Gaston Gaudio。

開賽6分鐘，Federer包含1次破發首盤已經取得3比0領先，首盤用20分鐘順利拿下。第2盤第4局Zverev曾出現過2個局點，不過還是遭到破發，Federer最後在第6局連拿4分破發，也把比賽給結束。

Zverev是地主德國選手，從外卡賽進來後連過2關，最後卻被慘電作收，對此Federer表示：「對Mischa感到抱歉，我並不想這樣贏下比賽，這使我有點不自在。」

Federer 2013年至今尚未拿下任何1座冠軍，進入4強後將會面對Tommy Haas與Gael Monfils之間的勝者，其中Haas去年在此決賽曾擊敗過Federer拿下冠軍。

為備戰溫布敦網球公開賽，Federer大多數會選擇此賽事進行暖身，過去也在此拿過5個冠軍，今年Federer將要挑戰衛冕溫網及溫網第8冠。
