有意爭取提名角逐台中市長的國民黨立委蔡錦隆，在今天公布初選民調結果後，確定在初選中落敗，蔡錦隆隨後發表聲明表示，他已經打電話向市長胡志強祝賀，也打電話向紀國棟委員道謝，未來大家仍是好朋友，仍會一起為台中市的發展，為台中市民的幸福，共同打拼。

蔡錦隆在聲明中表示，他個人可以輸，但台中市的未來不能輸，台中市正在發展成長的關口，需要懂得發展建設的國民黨來執政，才能持續向上提升，希望他的支持者，仍要一起努力，繼續支持國民黨提名的候選人，一起為台中市的建設與發展來努力；蔡錦隆並承諾，只要市長胡志強有需要，只需1通電話，他一定會盡全力為胡輔選。

蔡錦隆表示，他感謝所有支持者在初選期間的大力相挺，雖然結果不盡人意，但他從不後悔，一時的挫折，只為了走更長遠的路，他不會為失敗找藉口，只會為成功找方法，只要持續努力，相信下一次就能重返戰場、贏得提名、進軍台中市政府。
