美國國務卿凱瑞周五說，美國擁有明確且具體的證據，認定敘利亞政府使用化學武器攻擊自己的人民。該談話顯示，美國將對阿薩德總統的政權，採取行動。

「如果什麼也不做，將會造成影響，」凱瑞在國務院說。他並表示，歐巴馬總統將自已做出決議，且美國的行動將屬有限。

一份美國周五發布的報告說，在8月21日的化學武器攻擊中，造成1429人死亡，包括至少426名兒童。
