毫無疑問，黃金投資人近來屢陷困境。然而Ned Davis研究機構的一份報告預期，黃金投資可能還會大幅惡化。

拉福吉(John LaForge)與皮斯(Warren Pies)二位分析師在報告中寫到，黃金由1980年1月高點至1985年2月低點，大跌了65.8%。今日這波周期目前為止，黃金自2011年8月高點下跌了35.7%，若1980年代走勢重演，可能輕易跌破每盎司700美元，來到660美元。

在1980年代，黃金有幾項利空因素，但最明顯一項，便是美元的強勢。自1980年1月至1985年2月，美元兌一籃貨幣大漲了54%。

拉福吉與皮斯寫到，美元相同的形態再度重演並不困難，將對黃金構成壓力。這個環境對反向分析投資人並不友善。他們放空上漲的美元，通常總是輸家。

如果價格有進一步大幅下跌的危險，悲觀程度又未達到高點，則黃金目前尚非逢低進場時機。

他們預期：「此刻，黃金並不值得投入額外資金。黃金雖有技術性超賣，但趨勢不佳。一如黃金，整體商品的超級周期，看來正在沒落。」
